I am a virgin. I am a grown man and still a virgin. I admit it. In some ways I wear it like a badge of honor.

When I was married, I went there every single morning as an act of kindness for my wife because I knew it got her day off to a good start. I also have a friend named Troy who has given me a proprietary look inside the business model of Starbucks since the place is more or less his landlord.

Dating Canadian Baby Boomers say Condoms are for Kids

Hockey season is here again. And older dating Canadian singles will continue doing more than pucking. They’re heating up their empty nests on cold winter nights.
A national survey by the Canadian Liver Foundation found some interesting information that makes for good online dating news. The results from one thousand single men and women aged 46 to 64 prove they are reliving their youth and doing exactly what they have told their own kids not to do sexually.
- They are having one-night stands.
- They are engaging in sex with multiple partners.
- And they are failing to use condoms.
“Do as I Say in Dating – Not as I Do!”
When it comes to safe sex, the Canadian survey shows older singles aren’t practicing what they preach. While 70 percent of those surveyed say they tell their kids to practice safe sex, 30 percent of unmarried boomers admit they’ve had unprotected sex with a new partner. Furthermore, the same group said they aren’t worried about contracting a sexually transmitted infection or disease. The Canadian Liver Foundation was researching ways to prevent the widespread virus hepatitis as a sexually transmitted infection. Across Canada, there are 250,000 cases of hepatitis C.
Here are some of the other sex and dating facts found in the survey:
- 82 percent of baby boomers believe it’s important to have an active sex life at every age.
- 57 percent feel more free about having sex.
- 40 percent of men and 5 percent of women are open to one-night stands.
- 33 percent of unmarried boomers have done online dating.

How Low Do You Go in Online Dating?

If you have more than a few minutes of experience in online dating, you know the above question is a fair one to ask. How low do you go in online dating? How low are you willing to go?
Okay, so maybe I’m a Mickey Mouse television journalist turned online dating blog dude. The photo to the left of Mickey and Goofy doesn’t lie. But really, I’m thinking of the low end of the online dating spectrum a little because of myself, but more because of interviews I’ve done recently with online dating users.
I spoke with a woman tonight who genuinely seemed pleased that so far none of the men she’s met online have turned out to be real psychos. Is that how we judge success in this thing called internet dating? On a brighter note, she is hoping her online dating experience gets much better when she meets the guy she’s been wanting to connect with but hasn’t yet due to their continued scheduling conflicts.
A guy I’ve talked to told me he’s lowered his expectations to the point that now when he meets a woman in person who he’s been communicating with online, if she’s within being 25 pounds heavier than her posted photos he considers that okay. Is that really okay to you?
Another attractive woman I know is dealing with her low expectations by intentionally putting up what is essentially a keep away sign on her online dating profile. She’s taken down her photos and listed her home cities as being in both the northern and southern parts of the United States. Is that a good state to finding one’s perfect match or soul mate?
How low do you go? Hopefully, you don’t go low at all. Singles shouldn’t do the limbo for love. No matter how many frogs you kiss that hop onto your path, hold on tight to your high hopes. Remember, it’s only that one prince or princess you are seeking.

Duarte, California, the small suburb near Los Angeles has the #1 ranked zip code in 91008. Forbes finds that the median cost for buying a home here in the most expensive housing market is $4,276,462. The air quality ain’t great but multi-million dollar mansion owners can afford to buy a mask if necessary.
Targeting Duarte for your online dating prospects would be a hunt for quality not quantity. There are only 1,391 legal residents in 91008.
In some encouraging online dating news and economic news, more than one out of three zip codes in the United States saw its median prices either increase or stay flat in the past year. However, the slump staggers on for high-end homes. The slide continues but at a slower pace. In the top 500 high-end zip codes, the average home price fell 5% to $1.2 million from last year. In 2009, the decline of the markets on saw a drop of 7%.

Stephen Bennett, a single guy in his 20’s from the Washington, DC area simply got so busy in his life with responsibilities from work and school, going to the gym and caring for his dog, that he claims he never had time to meet new people. So, he and partner Benjamin Gottlieb created a business to solve his own problem. “I naturally turn to the Internet to meet new people, but the options available online really aren’t geared toward the younger crowd,” said Bennett.
He points out that 18-29-year olds account for roughly half of the American singles. (You can check out our earlier post to see the results of singles in the latest U.S. Census). However, Bennett believes that young people aren’t using most of the existing online dating websites due to high costs and the LoserVille stigma they carry with them. In addition, most online dating sites promote everlasting love and marriage, but many young people today are really looking first for casual dating or just having a good time.
This online dating system works by creating an online profile, then recruiting your single friends to be in your eTourage. Other users can search the website for girls or guys who catch their interest. If they communicate and connect, they can ask each other out and simultaneously ask the members of their eTourages if they’d like to go on a group date.
To this online dating blog, the eTourage concept certainly sounds like a safer approach for young women. It also seems to have plenty of other advantages such as being more relaxed, feeling less pressure, and simply having fun being with a bunch of your good friends. Who knows? A person could wind up finding the love of life with the selected person or someone else who is one of the friends of another eTourage.

While the official calendar says differently, Labor Day marks the end of summer in the minds of most of us. An online dating blog should look at this.
While the fall weather usually brings relief and a pleasant change outside, inside the minds of many men and women who are singles, Labor Day also means a shift in our thinking as we search for casual dating partners, sexual partners, or serious relationship partners. You can become more interested in finding a partner knowing what is ahead on the calendar.
Traditionally, if you hit this time of year, some of us might be looking for a special someone with whom to watch football games and create your own more exciting halftime show. Labor Day means another day on the job. That is if you are a man or woman on the case looking for your soul mate or ideal dating partner. Labor Day and online dating have historically been a perfect match. And it makes sense, too.
If you think about it, the holiday recognized for marking the end of summer can mean much more to those shopping singles. They get people thinking about trying online dating, and of course get them thinking about using the services of match.com.
The list is based on the Top 10 U.S. Cities where you can you find the most singles online actively looking for dating, sex, or lifelong love. The rankings research data was compiled based on the online dating activities of men and women between June and August of this summer.

Fun Math & Fuzzy Math: Singles Play Starring Role in Latest U.S. Census

Well I feel better. I guess I’m not alone after all. How about that? It just seems that way.
The U.S. Census Bureau says there are 96 million people in the United States just like you and me. They have no spouse.
This means 43 percent of all Americans 18 years old or over are single. The definition of “single” here is an adult who has never been married, is divorced or widowed.
I know some people who worked for the latest census. They talked about how disorganized it was, and wasteful it was in its spending. Oh well. At least our taxpayer dollars paid for some pretty interesting statistics about singles in 2009. Here’s more of them.
According to the census, 61 percent of single men and women have never been married. 24 percent are divorced. 15 percent are widowed.
There are 31 million single Americans living alone. We account for 27 percent of all households. This is up significantly from the rate of 17 percent in 1970.
46 percent of all U.S. households (52 million) are maintained by a single person.
11.6 million are single parents living with their children. 9.9 million of these are single mothers. 1.7 million are single fathers.
17 percent of singles are at least 65 years old. Many more of us just look it or feel it.
Roughly half a million singles are same-sex couples. 38 percent of those had at least one child living with them. (Gay marriage in California is now going to make these numbers “fuzzy math” as George W. Bush would say about Al Gore’s statistics. Hey, Al Gore is one of us now! So is Tipper.
I wonder if the inventor of the internet and his ex are now active singles online. Hmmm…
For every 100 single women, there are 88 single men available. So, the odds of me finding a woman as a relationship partner are in my favor. Excellent! Meantime, I will be sure to remember the rest of you 96 million singles tomorrow morning when I wake up, roll over in bed, and say “Good morning” to…my Blackberry.

YouAndMeArePure.com is an online dating site that describes itself as a friendly place for virgins to connect. It is the brainchild of Lety and Jose Colin, a married couple who themselves abstained from having sex until they were married. The intent of the site is to work as a tool for singles who value purity.
While this is an interesting niche concept for an online dating service, the business model seems to have some holes in it. Access to profiles is allegedly only granted to other virgins. However, personal profiles on the website also happen to be free to create. Despite the stern warnings of a policy that the site is for virgins only, how in the world would they know if you are or aren’t?
The founders of YouAndMeArePure.com say virginity is an important common aspect and precious gift between two people that can lead to close friendships or marriage. They say it brings bonding power that cannot be purchased with all the money in the world.
However, visitors to the website can purchase V-Cards which are literally designed for people to be proud card carrying virgins. Also for sale are gift certificates to the site, as well as upgrades in membership.
The website and its content appear as though they may have been created by a virgin web designer. Captions for the photos of couples on the site readily admit the people featured are models. It must tough to find virgins, let alone virgins who will allow their photos to be posted on an internet dating website.

Online Dating, The Giving Tree, and Monica Lewinsky

What does a children’s book have to do with an online dating blog you ask? Everything.
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein is a classic for all ages and a classic for all times. The book tells the story of a boy and a very kind and generous tree. It covers the relationship as it evolves with age until they both are very old. The boy has become an old man. The tree has given him everything to the point of being nothing more than a good stump for sitting and resting.
Years ago at beautiful Martha’s Vineyard I saw Shel Silverstein. He was riding a bicycle. I was busy working as a television journalist covering the frenzy of the Clinton’s secluded family escape/vacation there. It was the day after President Clinton’s historic address to the nation regarding his affair or lack thereof with the woman with the most infamous stained dress in American history, Monica Lewinsky.
I could do nothing more than to thank Shel Silverstein, tell him how I admired his work, and how The Giving Tree made a difference in my life. It has and continues to do so.
My intuition just gave me the idea of starting this online dating blog. (Or at least it was the first time I heard it!) In either case, I listened and immediately followed up on creating it.
Never in a million years did I think my life would turn out the way it did. I didn’t expect to be a 40-something, single Daddy living in Arizona writing a blog that shares a voice about love, life, and finding a great relationship. But here I am doing exactly that. Perhaps the reason I often joke about how my life is living proof God has a sense of humor is because I believe it. : )
Truth be told, I can tell you The Giving Tree is on my mind and in my heart in starting this blog. I suppose it’s part of my own personal starting over…yet again.
But I believe I know how the universe works. The more you give in life, the more you get. If I help others through this blog, and am in some way instrumental in a man or a woman experiencing personal growth or finding their ideal relationship partner, then that alone would be a valuable reward.
The ultimate gift in doing this online dating blog would be if in some way it helped me to attract the woman of my dreams who I could love and give to until I am an old man who provides her with a wrinkled, but safe and comfortable place to rest.
