TODAY’S TIGER WOODS REMINDS ME OF MICHAEL JACKSON
Aug 9, 2010 Celebrities
I never thought this day would come. I never thought I could say I posted things like this online. Tiger Woods reminds me of Michael Jackson.
I see one of those rare human beings with all of the skills and talent in the world. I also see a man who was one of our top personalities and performers get ruined overnight by a sex scandal.
As I once did with Michael Jackson, I’m doing now with Tiger Woods as a husband, Daddy, and mega-celebrity golfer. I look at this man now and wonder, “Dude, what were you thinking? What did you do to yourself?” And of course I’m asking myself, “Who is this messed up guy and where did he come from?”
Yesterday, the world’s Number 1-ranked golfer shot a 7-over par 77 to finish second to last in the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, a tournament he had won seven times in 10 tries, and had never finished worst than fifth. Woods’ 77 was his highest final round ever. Shooting 18 over for the tournament was his worst in a 72-hole event.
Golf was his love, and his life. The golf course his home, his territory, and his stage. These days, Tiger Woods makes his way around the golf course like he’s completely lost in the woods. And he doesn’t appear to have a clue how to find his way out. It feels like watching the fat, bald 60-year old hit on sexy, young women in a singles bar. It’s sad.
He’s living proof right now that life isn’t about the quantity of relationships, but rather the quality of them. Tiger Woods has lost his father, his coach, and possibly his wife. I met Elin Nordegren when I was covering the PGA Tour for a couple of years. She was golfer Jesper Parnevik’s nanny. She was nice and of course, a stunning beauty.
What was he doing having all of those affairs? Did he think it would remain a secret? What in the world was he doing or thinking or feeling?
Before the news of Tiger Woods’ extramarital sexual escapades, I watched him with awe in his pursuit of excellence on the golf course. I rooted for him every time he played. He had passion. He had millions. He had charm and charisma. And he had a beautiful wife and children. He was the best. I thought Tiger Woods might have been the luckiest man alive.
Now Tiger Woods reminds me of “The King of Pop” who lost his dance moves.
I can’t believe it. The invincible, immortal Tiger Woods – The Emperor has no clothes. And it’s all because he took off his clothes too many times with too many women he shouldn’t have.
It seems Tiger Woods, “The King of Clubs” didn’t honor quality relationships with those he claimed to love. We knew he had ice water running through his veins on the golf course. We just didn’t know the ice water passed through his heart.
For the sake of golf, I hope Tiger gets back his game. For the sake of him, and his wife and children, I hope he gets back his heart and brains. For now thought, it’s just
sad, really sad.
